The application process for Naturalization or British Citizenship seems to be simple. However, the British Nationality laws and understanding of UKVI “Good Character” requirement could be complex.
Moreover, failure to disclose material information may result in the application being dismissed. The refusal to grant British Citizenship by UKVI may also cost the substantial application fee and/or your precious time.
There are different ways to become a British Citizen but the most common are:
At Immigration Solicitors 4me, we have a specialist and dedicated team that endeavors to assist you in your application for British Citizenship.
In order to confirm your eligibility and avail free “No obligation Assessment”, please contact us on 0208 124 3222.
Before applying for naturalisation, the criteria, you must meet to get British citizenship are different, depending on whether you are married/in a civil partnership with a British citizen, or naturalisation as a British citizen, and other circumstances.
You can claim British citizenship by naturalisation, or registration if you were not born in the UK and your spouse is a British citizen. This means that the Home Office will give you certain rights without giving up your own nationality. The process will include an interview for both of you together at your local immigration office, where they will ask about each other's background, etc. You must be able to show that there is no serious criminal conviction against either of you. It takes 6 once the form has been sent in (up to 3 months) and will cost £200 per person.
If you are married/in a Civil Partnership with A British Citizen and Living Abroad You can claim citizenship by 'Declaration' if you were not born in the UK, your marriage or civil partnership took place more than 3 years ago and you live abroad (and one of you lives abroad at the time of making the application for naturalisation as a British citizen). The process includes an interview for both of you together at your local consulate. You must be able to show that there is no serious criminal conviction against either of you. It takes 6-8 weeks from the date they receive the form and will cost £400 per person. If one or both spouses / civil partners already have citizenship or indefinite leave to remain it takes 4-6 weeks from the date they receive the form and will cost £80 per person.
If you are a British Citizen by Descent (Born to a British Parent) In general, if one of your parents was born in the UK or naturalisation UK before you were born then you can claim citizenship. This does not apply if both your parents are foreign, even if one of them had a British parent. You can claim citizenship by 'Registration' when you are aged 18 or over. The process includes an interview for both of you together at your local immigration office or naturalisation solicitors where they will ask about each other's background, etc. You must be able to show that there is no serious criminal conviction against either of you. It takes 6-11 weeks from the date they receive the form and will cost £800 per person. If one or both spouses / civil partners already have citizenship or indefinite leave to remain it takes 4-6 weeks from the date they receive the form and will cost £80 per person.
If you are a British citizen of descent (born to a British parent) then depending on your place of birth there is a different procedure for claiming citizenship. Applicants born before 1 January 1983 (inclusive):
You can claim citizenship by 'Registration' when you are aged 18 or over if neither of your parents was married at the time of your birth and one of them was a British citizen at that time. You must also show that you have lived in the UK naturalisation for 3 years with no long absences and be able to show that you meet certain character requirements (for example there is no serious criminal conviction against you). The process includes an interview for both of you together at your local immigration office, where they will ask about each other's background, etc. It takes 6-11 weeks from the date they receive the form and will cost £800 per person. If one or both spouses / civil partners already have citizenship or indefinite leave to remain it takes 4-6 weeks from the date they receive the form and will cost £80 per person.
If you are not married/in a Civil Partnership with A British Citizen You can claim citizenship by 'Naturalisation' if you were not born in the UK, but do meet certain residence conditions (such as having lived in the UK for at least 5 years with no long absences). You must also show that there is no serious criminal conviction against you. It costs £1,282 and takes 12-14 months. If you are married/in a civil partnership with a British citizen and not yourself a British citizen, or if one of your parents is a British citizen otherwise than by descent (for example they were born in the UK before 1983) then you can claim citizenship as 'Registration' as above or apply for naturalisation as a British citizen. Again, the process includes an interview for both of you together at your local immigration office, where they will ask about each other's background, etc. You must be able to show that there is no serious criminal conviction against either of you. It takes 6-11 weeks from the date they received the form and will cost £800 per person. If one or both spouses / civil partners already have citizenship or indefinite leave to remain it takes 4-6 weeks from the date they receive the form and will cost £80 per person.
If you are not married/in a civil partnership with a British citizen then another way that you can apply is if you were born before 1 January 1983, but neither of your parents was a citizen of any country at that time. You must be able to show that there is no serious criminal conviction against either of you and be able to show that you meet certain character requirements (for example there is no serious criminal conviction against you). It costs £1,282 and takes 12-14 months.
You can claim citizenship by 'Naturalisation' if the first passport that they ever had as a British citizen was issued either in adulthood or as a child, and one of their parents was a British citizen at the time of your birth. You must also show that there is no serious criminal conviction against you. It costs £1,282 and takes 12-14 months. If one or both spouses / civil partners already have citizenship or indefinite leave to remain it takes 4-6 weeks from the date they receive the form and will cost £80 per person.
If you were born after 1 January 1983 and have citizenship of a country which has been a Commonwealth country since 1949, or which was a British colony before that time, then it costs £1,012 and takes around a year.
As far as I know, there is no way to claim British citizenship if neither parent had a UK passport at the time of your birth. Also does not apply for naturalisation to those who were married/in a civil partnership with someone who already had foreign citizenship at the time they got their first passport as a British citizen. If you want to find out more about these routes for claiming British citizenship from, abroad click here.
In addition, there are other ways to become a British citizen by living in the UK. They can apply to become a citizen, but it takes at least 4 years from the date of naturalisation application and they have no legal right of appeal against refusal of citizenship. You can find out more information about these routes here.
If you are born abroad after 1 January 1983 and your father is a British citizen who was married/in a civil partnership with someone who already had foreign citizenship when he got his first passport as a British citizen then you may be able to claim 'dual citizenship'. This means that you will hold 2 citizenships British naturalisation and whatever your parents' nationality was). If one or both spouses already have citizenship or indefinite leave to remain it will cost £80 per person.
In fact, you can avoid the British Naturalization application refusals by satisfying the legal requirements.
However, there are some cases where the UK Naturalization refusal is due to an official error. You may ask for the original decision to be reconsidered through a Reconsideration request.
The refusal specialist team at Immigration Solicitors 4me will ensure that you are provided with intensive tailored advice based on your individual circumstances.
In addition, we will provide the required legal assistance for any Reconsideration request against your refusal decision.
You will be provided with a list of documents that would be required for the application. A dedicated caseworker will complete the application form based on the information and evidence provided by you. Book a UK Naturalisation Solicitor near you right now!
As a result, a detailed cover letter highlighting the essential factors will be drafted. It may be of assistance for the Home Office-UKVI caseworkers to better understand your application.

TMC Solicitors are a dedicated law firm with a friendly team that are both professional and ethical in their business practice.
They are very thorough and their paper work is impeccable. They will always pick up your call or return your call if they are busy.
They guide and brief you well on what to expect regarding your case and are always happy to welcome you (if you need a one to one meeting) in their Manchester offices. I would strongly recommend their services to anyone requiring legal services both within and outside the UK.
TMC solicitors were asked to make an application for a difficult case that involve domestic psychological violence . They conducted there work professionally and with careful anticipation of what might the home office through at them. They succeeded in obtaining the residency approval. I highly recommend them and I wish them all the success they deserve.
TMC Solicitors are very professional and would lay out all the options available to you before advising on the best option to take. Recently had an immigration matter that was proving very difficult to handle in the U.K. Produced all the documents requested by the Solicitors and they drafted supporting letter to the home office. Was not expecting to hear back from the home office for a while but was pleasantly surprised when a positive result was granted to us in less than 5 months.
From skepticism to elation! I can’t thank you and your dedicated team enough for the outstanding results achieved.
From our first meeting in July with respect to a refused visitor’s visa, to our last in November for the intended spousal visa, it has been an emotional and financial roller coaster. My wife, my son and I are so ecstatic at the exceptional service, guidance and wisdom that TMC Solicitors Ltd, that we strongly believe in putting it in writing
A spousal visa is no joke, with Home Office making it extremely difficult for someone to bring their spouse to the UK. Besides the financial costs, the emotional strains are almost unbearable. The horror stories you hear and read about, give you sleepless nights. This is not for the faint hearted, and definitely something that you can’t do alone.
I would suggest anyone struggling to get a visa for your spouse to make contact with Muazzam at TMC. Be warned however, that you should listen closely to his advice, ensure that you give him all the facts. Supply everything that’s needed, miss nothing.
Thank you all, once again, for everything. We will be in touch for the visa extensions and the citizenship applications
I was the first client to do the third party sponsor's with TMC solicitors Ltd and my application was successful. Asrar was my key worker he is professional and very polite thankyou for all your support
I would highly recommend TMC Solicitors in Manchester whom I used for my mother in law's immigration matter. TMC were very professional, friendly, empathetic with excellent communication and consequently we won our case and even went down in case history! TMC were very accommodating and the standard of their documentation is very good. Their fees are very reasonable and they are transparent. I also recommended them to my colleague for an unmarried partner visa and they behaved in the same professional manner and my colleague obtained the visa he required. I would recommend them again.
A special thanks to Asrar and to Muazzam. You guys did an excellent job and myself and my family will be forever grateful to TMC. May you continue to succeed in your business and grow.

Family Seek Visa help from TMC Solicitors. My sister and my two daughters have been refused a Genuine Standard Family UK Visiting Visa from Nigeria on several occasions. I finally sought for help from TMC Solicitors and they go through the previous refusal applications and they helped me to prepared a professional and well-presented application. The Solicitors ensure every points raised by the Entry Visa Clearance in the previous refusals were properly addressed, to my greatest shock and surprised the Entry Visa Clearance erroneously refused the Applicant's application. It was apparent that the ECO did not consider our new evidence submitted with the application. It was so sad and ridiculous that the ECO said there will be no Administrative Review or Appeal for the Applicant's . Thank God for TMC Solicitors that encourage me to challenge the decision. The solicitors wrote a Pre-Action Protocol letter to the Home Office and challenge the unreasonable decision of the ECO, shortly after they submitted an application for Judicial Review. At the end we received a good news from the Home Office that the Applicantions will be reconsidered and the Applicant's will be granted their Visa. I would like to use this opportunity to express my profound gratitude to TMC Solicitors for all their caring and professional dedication throughout the process. Thank you once again TMC Solicitors and I will always recommend your good work and services to anyone seeking help on their immigration problem.

My Visa being rejected 2 times because of my criminal convictions, and I thank God for the TMC Solicitors for the helpful and professional services to fight and gain my Permit to stay in the UK. Very friendly, fast and great service . Helped me get a visa for my mrs and bring her over to the uk .very quick and efficient. Will definatley recomend to every one.. thank you
My future daughter-in-law had her fiancee visa refused on the grounds that she hadn't provided sufficient evidence of a long-term relationship with my son - she could have produced this if asked - and the whole family was deeply upset. In desperation we sought the legal advice of Immigration Solicitors 4me (locally known as TMC Solicitors). All the staff were extremely helpful and their legal expert, Muazzam Chughtai was fantastic. He looked carefully at all the documents we supplied and felt that my son's fiancee had such a strong case that she should apply again rather than appeal the original decision - which could take up to 48 weeks.
Muazzam gave us really good advice on what extra evidence we should provide and his covering letter was so strong that my son's fiancee was granted her visa less than 2 months after she was initially refused. It was the best Christmas present we could have wished for!
In conclusion, I can recommend them wholeheartedly if you want expert advice and help on immigration matters and visa applications.
Thank You TMC Solicitors for all your help and support, would most definitely highly recommend you for your outstanding services.
Very helpful staff.
brilliant staff, top class service, thanks again
I needed advice and I got a top class service
